90 on 90

Callista & Theresa
About to get on the road
4/23/12

And so we have arrived at our first destination! Actually we arrived at 1:30AM this morning, exactly 13 hours from the time we left Elgin, IL. I'd say that's some good timing but it probably has something to do with the 90mi/hr speed we were able to maintain.
Driving 13 hours is exhausting, we resorted to running laps at a deserted gas station just outside of Sioux Falls to whip up some energy.
Yes, we probably looked like weirdos.

& so the bug slaughter begins

Wisconsin, Minnesota and South Dakota are the states we've made our way through thus far, and they all seem to be over run by a mass amount of flies, butterflies and other winged insects who found their final resting place on our White Toyota Yaris.

Callie cleaning up the slaughter

We laughed for about 15 minutes the first time we stopped to clean the windshield and noticed the exuberant amount of dead carcasses of fly covering the front, hood and side mirrors of our car.
We're really hoping the rest of the journey, being as we're about to reach mountains is bug free :)
Yuck!

Thank you Tessa Gunderson for the South Dakota "Deer Alert",
It's damn near Code Orange out on these highways
& it's not even mating season!

Only in Keystone, South Dakota
Our first hotel stay was at the Holiday Inn Express in Keystone, South Dakota!
This lovely shot is of the lobby, and this is only a tease, can't forget the numerous mounted antlers, the buffalo head, and turkeys hanging from the ceiling.

On to Mount Rushmore :)
and further west
stayed tuned
much love, Cal & Ter

  1. hey theresa!

    1. congrats on your graduation!
    2. if you'd like to stay in another keystone, i saw that you were passing through colorado. We're only 1.5 hours outside of your Denver destination but I live in a beautiful area in the heart of the Colorado Rockies. I also happen to be a manager of a hotel so if you'd like to swing through maybe stay for a day of hiking/biking etc. i'd be happy to grab you and your friend a deal on a nice room!

Good luck and have fun on the rest of your trip!
