Jesse Morrow & the Band

Jesse Morrow & the Band preforming "This Air"

Our last night in Bellingham, WA was a success thanks to Jesse and all of his wonderful friends who entertained us. This video is a clip from his show and is just a taste of what this very talented musician has to offer. Please check him out at:

The Gum Wall in Seattle, WA
On our way to the next destination, we stopped in Seattle to see some friends and check out the Pike Place Market. We got to see flying fish, sample fresh produce and buy coffee from the "Original Starbucks". Alas, we received yet another ticket for parking in downtown Seattle. Washington has been great, but we were ready to get outta there!

We're all settled in Portland, OR now.
We had an amazing night at a variety show at Dante's Inferno last night.
Thanks to Melissa Zappa we were able to meet a few new people and see just why they want to
"keep Portland weird"
We'll be here for a few days and post more after we've racked up some adventures
much love <3

Bellingham, WA

Welcome to Bellingham

shot from Boulevard Park

Bellingham is absolutely gorgeous. A woman in a coffee shop told us we would be falling in love and moving here by the end of the trip and after two days free of rain we can really start to see the romanticism that is life in Bellingham.

(credit to Curtis Cartier for a wonderful shot)

Thanks to Jesse Morrrow, we were able to make a few new friends, Andrew Spencer & Curtis Cartier, who've been kind enough to hang out with us and show us around. We've basically been hiking, walking, and coffee consuming our way through mountains and forests since we got here Wednesday night.
so much lush greenery, so much moss

 Whatcom Falls

Whatcom Falls is an awesome little park and part of Bellingham, located in the heart of town.
It's really cool, coming from Chicago, to see these majestic forest type settings, consumed by glacier water run off located dead center in town. After seeing numerous bikers, hikers and runners just enjoying some exercise in these settings I don't know if I'll ever look at Lake Shore Drive the same again.

Teddy Bear Cove

We capped our night off the other day with a bottle of Merlot at Teddy Bear Cove.
Thanks to some sunshine we were able to get some really nice pictures, although they hardly do any justice.
Teddy Bear Cove was so cute and we would imagine a fabulous place for a date, but the EPIC 3 minute hike back up the mountain to the car was damn near painful and made us realize, we really need to work on our cardio.
holy wow did that baby work up a sweat

We've been ending our days off with a cup of coffee and a sunset at the Wood's Coffee which Andrew informed us has beat out Starbucks the last few years in a row for best coffee in the area, which is surprising being that we are basically in the birth place of Starbucks.
There is nothing like sitting on the bay with a hot cup of coffee and someone you enjoy spending time with watching the sunset.
It really is the little things in life.

Thanks to Jesse for this lovely gem

Tonight is our last night in Bellingham and we're ending our stay with a show by the wonderful
Please follow the link and check him out!

He's been kind enough to not only give us his apartment for the past 3 nights, introduce us to his friends who've hung out with us everyday but he is now entertaining us with his sweet jams.
Thanks for everything Jesse!

Tomorrow we're back on the road to Portland after a quick stop in Seattle,
stay tuned ;)
more adventures to come

Coeur d'Alene

Downtown
Not too much to post today, just a few photo's from Coeur d'Alene, ID.
We've made it all the way to the West Coast
and will spending a few days visiting friends in Northern Washington before hitting the road again.
The grand total has now reached 8 states!
We regret to inform you all, Callie received a speeding ticket about an hour outside of Spokane, WA
but hey so goes life on the open road.
((It was only an 86mph in a 70mph zone))
and as you may or may not know our rental car has NO cruise control...
speeding tickets happen to the best of us ;)

they still make pay phones?!?
Whoa?! A pay phone? I was hardly aware pay phones were even still in existence.

Painters in Coeur d'Alene

Downtown Coeur d'Alene was very small, but it was incredibly beautiful.
These pictures barely do it any justice.

Babes
More to come in the near future,
for now we're taking a break and enjoying a few days of rest before commencing the travels!

much love,
Cal & Ter

Time Travelers

Good Day Everyone :)
Settled in at our second destination: Coeur D'Alene, ID last night.
For those of you who have never heard of it; it's a small town in the northern part of Idaho just about 30 minutes outside of Spokane, WA that is absolutely beautiful, surrounded by mountains on a small lake.
We arrived at 11:30pm (1:30AM Chicago time) making it two times zones we've crossed in two days!
We're officially time travelers.
Theresa keeps asking "Do I look any younger?"

Mount Rushmore
view from inside the park
Keystone, SD

On our way out of South Dakota we stopped by Mount Rushmore for a quick walk around the park and a look at the memorial.
Absolutely beautiful day, and a walk around the park on the trail marked "strenuous" was a nice lil' bit of cardio before another day of 13 hours of driving.

Theresa and Callista
4/24/12
We made the decision to dress in all black, comfy clothes for the long car ride, even joking that we looked like ninjas.
It didn't take more than 2 minutes out of the car walking up to the memorial before we were both drenched in sweat complaining "Black was a bad choice" in a voice much similar to Ron Burgundy.
However, it's hard to complain too much when you're blessed with beautiful sunny days on the road
We've been very thankful for that.

Kayak's out on a lake in South Dakota

On our way out of the park heading from South Dakota to Wyoming we stopped for some photo's of a gorgeous lake and some kayakers.
On our way to Idaho we traveled through Wyoming and across the entire state of Montana bringing the grand total to 7 states we've traveled through.

Montana offered a sneak peak of the mountains to come

Mountains in the distance! Probably one of the most exciting things of the day was starting to see such a drastic change in the scenery. It really wasn't until these peaks made themselves known that we felt like we had actually left the midwest, and that we had definitely made some progress.

Storms on the horizon

One of the coolest parts of driving on such wide open road is seeing storms arising on the horizon, lighting in the distance, sheets of rain falling from the sky but still being touched by the sun.
Traveling on the road really expands your appreciation for not only the sheer size of the USA, or even the Earth, but what life must have been like back before the concept of travel and flight could allow you to so simply expand such great distance with ease.

Once again, we're still committing mass murder on the road! Who knows were we picked up this poor little guy but what we do know...
We NEED a car wash before reaching our next destination, we don't want to terrify Jesse Morrow with the graveyard that has become our vehicle.

Shout out to the NUHS class of April, 2012

Getting back on the road shortly, luckily today's travel won't consist of more than about 7 hours of driving. We both are beyond excited to finally reach a destination and relax for a few days before hitting the road again.
keep in touch.
Much love Cal & Ter

90 on 90

Callista & Theresa
About to get on the road
4/23/12

And so we have arrived at our first destination! Actually we arrived at 1:30AM this morning, exactly 13 hours from the time we left Elgin, IL. I'd say that's some good timing but it probably has something to do with the 90mi/hr speed we were able to maintain.
Driving 13 hours is exhausting, we resorted to running laps at a deserted gas station just outside of Sioux Falls to whip up some energy.
Yes, we probably looked like weirdos.

& so the bug slaughter begins

Wisconsin, Minnesota and South Dakota are the states we've made our way through thus far, and they all seem to be over run by a mass amount of flies, butterflies and other winged insects who found their final resting place on our White Toyota Yaris.

Callie cleaning up the slaughter

We laughed for about 15 minutes the first time we stopped to clean the windshield and noticed the exuberant amount of dead carcasses of fly covering the front, hood and side mirrors of our car.
We're really hoping the rest of the journey, being as we're about to reach mountains is bug free :)
Yuck!

Thank you Tessa Gunderson for the South Dakota "Deer Alert",
It's damn near Code Orange out on these highways
& it's not even mating season!

Only in Keystone, South Dakota
Our first hotel stay was at the Holiday Inn Express in Keystone, South Dakota!
This lovely shot is of the lobby, and this is only a tease, can't forget the numerous mounted antlers, the buffalo head, and turkeys hanging from the ceiling.

On to Mount Rushmore :)
and further west
stayed tuned
much love, Cal & Ter

(Doctors Tammy, Callista & Theresa)

Officially OFFICIAL! We did it! We can now legally call ourselves Doctors of Chiropractic Medicine. It's Surreal, I think I sneaked peeks at the diploma lying in my lap about 15 times, with the excitement of a kid who had discovered their christmas presents early before I finally could look at it with out a cheesy smile on my face. Yet I still know It's going to be another handful of months before I can confidently say "Hi, I'm Doctor Lay".

but in the mean time, Theresa and I leave on our Road Trip in less than 48 hours! Figuring out how to pack for a month is going to be an overwhelming task, the mere thought of it makes me tired.

Monday AM we take off for South Dakota, 15hrs and 880miles of 90W stand before us and our first stop :)

Here's to a safe travels, a trip to remember and starting a new chapter in life <3

12 days to go!

As many of you may (or may not know) Theresa and I will be graduating Chiropractic school in exactly 8 days! April 19th 2012 will represent the end of one chapter and the start of another full of student loan debt, bills, appointments that can't be missed and all the various other forms of adult responsibility. But it's not all bad...

About 2 years ago Theresa and I decided no matter what stood in our way we were taking a fabulous luxurious vacation together after graduation. Now that time is finally here! In 12 days  we will be hitting the road in a rented Ford Focus, vagabonding around the west, covering 6,000 miles in a month and pocketing a handful of experiences with nothing more than a camera, some cash, a map, and a month of freedom.

This blog will serve to document our travels, we'll be posting pictures, stories and news all along the way to keep our friends and family in touch.

Enjoy :)
